Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some recommendations for dress shirts and pants that are popular and reliable for a professional wardrobe:

Dress Shirts

  1. Charles Tyrwhitt: Known for their non-iron extra slim shirts, they often have deals like 5 shirts for a reasonable price ($30-$50 range). Great fit and quality.
  2. Brooks Brothers: A classic choice, especially during sales. Prices typically range from $80-$100.
  3. Banana Republic: Offers three fits to choose from, ensuring a near-perfect fit. Shirts are priced around $80-$90.
  4. TM Lewin: Another solid option, with shirts priced around $40.
  5. Proper Cloth: Customizable shirts with a quick turnaround. They use a 12-question fit system to ensure a perfect fit.
  6. Nordstrom: Carries a variety of solid brands for dress shirts.

Dress Pants

  • Stick to versatile colors like navy, charcoal, and light grey. These can be easily mixed and matched with your shirts.
  • Brands like Suit Supply are highly recommended for their quality and fit. Ensure the pants are tailored for a polished look.

Additional Tips

  • Aim for a mix of white and light blue shirts, along with subtle patterns like discrete stripes or checks for variety.
  • Fit is crucial. If the shirts or pants don’t fit perfectly off the rack, consider getting them tailored.
  • You can get away with fewer pants than shirts since repeating pants is less noticeable.

With seven shirts and pants, you’ll have plenty of combinations to rotate through the week while maintaining a professional appearance.

Charles Tyrwhitt is the best for price/quality, super reliable and always look solid - but learn to avoid some of their newer 'weaves' / designs, the older classic stuff is perfect. Going up, Eton is solid - expensive if you're dropping £120 for a shirt but a one off purchase / gift is worth it, super comfy. Boggi / Hackett I only remotely consider if it's 50% sale, a bit too slim fit / Italian for my liking.

Do you think the royal Oxford weave is too loud? I liked how the texture feels but it can looks a bit less crisp compared to poplin/twill

Macy’s Calvin klein for shirts, trousers, jackets. They will alter the trousers for free. Easy to fit, easy to replace, looks good.
