New Tracker Module

just an fyi, we just installed a new Tracker module to the site which is why you might see a bit of difference under the "Recent" menu item: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/tracker

Positives:

  1. xtracker was slowing the site load speed down, this one should be much faster

  2. easily can toggle between all recent content, and content you've commented on/ participated in

  3. you can now jump to any "new" comments you haven't read in a specific post. we had this before but lost it in our last upgrade to Drupal 6.

Slight negative: 1. can't toggle between content types (dont think anyone used this anyways)

Enjoy, Patrick

Thanks Patrick.

Have you looked at VBulletin or phpBB? Licensing fees aren't that expensive, and since (I think) both are in what's essentially open-source PHP, you can modify them to suit your needs if necessary.

They're pretty scalable- check out WebHostingTalk.com. Not sure how big your operation is, but one relatively painless strategy for distributing some of the load is to set the database up on a separate server in the same rack and (if necessary), put a switch in to route traffic to multiple servers. At this point, your only bottleneck is the database.

Concurrency gets to be a real *witch once the database becomes the bottleneck.
