New WSO Reply & Comment Structure / System
Ok, the next iteration in our attempt to improve the WSO UI is here.
We have now made it so when you are replying to a comment, the comment box appear immediately below the comment you are replying to. Additionally, after you post a reply to a comment, your comment will have a small tab in the upper left corner that says "In reply to [username]" so that people know what comment you are replying to.
Based on user feedback, we kept the chronological order of the comments and did not use any indentation. Another cool feature we will bring live soon is making that small reply tab actually slides up to reveal what you are replying to, instead of linking / jumping you back up the page.
In other words,
1. No new page when you are reply
2. New tabbed feature on comments to show who/what you are replying to
3. More jquery that will show the replied to comment coming in future weeks...
In the meantime, we are going to make a hard push to redesign and clean up the header: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/new-wso-header-design-comments-we…
Thanks,
Patrick
Hells yea, I'm liking these changes a lot. Thanks Pat
thanks... :-) me too...now everyone doesnt have to quote everyone.
That's huge. That's gonna make the threads a lot more pleasant to scroll through.
The new reply and comment system is a solid improvement. Also, a big fan of the reply to comment tag.
How do you get it to show the "Replied to WSO.com" like you have? I don't see a reply button for specific posts.
First button on the far left.
you just need to click the reply button (the the left of the quote button) on anyones comment...and it will automatically appear.
Whoops, for some reason that registered as the back button in my brain. Also, when you hover over PM or forward it pops up what the button is, but not when you hover over quote or reply.
The new tabbed feature is nice.
Agreed.
the tab shoudl hop you right up to the comment you are replying to...did it not do that? Anyway, that will be gone soon when we make it even better and add som jquery in, so when you click the "in reply to tab", it will slide the comment it is in reply to right above the comment with some animation.
It's doing it now... either I didn't notice somehow or it was a one time thing. Nice! And that update will be awesome too
Thanks, we'll get that fixed!
I like the upgrades! Everything moves a lot smoother. Just keep exploring different jquery functions and soon this website will be fully modern!
Meant to ask before, can we get notifications when our threads have been replied to or is it only when they've been quoted?
Why can't you reply to an OP?
double trouble
right now, only when you're quoted, but this will change in ~1-2 weeks...
I think the thought process is that if you add a comment you are replying to OP by default...but I'm sure we can add in a reply button to OPs post if you guys think it makes sense?
Thanks
I'd go with OP reply button, too. Some people will want it, some won't care. Might as well.
