Dearest Primates, So I wanted to give you a quick update on the 'Scoring" you see all around the site that you see next to threads (under the SB icon) on All REcent Content, Popular Block and all the forum containers as well as some of the other changes we've been making around the site.
New WSO Thread Scores
Instead of now just showing the SBs from the OP as the "score", we take a much more holistic approach and try to give some weight to the comments and monkey shit. The formula (after a lot of back and forth trying to make sure that the top content (the type we want to promote) floated to the top, we came up with:
SCORE = [(SB - MS on OP)] PLUS [20% x (aggregate SB-MS on comments)] (before it was just SB on the OP).
I still think it would be useful once you're in the thread near the top to show an aggregate green and red count for the overall thread? Just not sure where we'd put that without cluttering up the header.
New Leaderboard Ranking & Design
In order to try an reward consistently helpful contribution, we created a new leaderboard for the site. You'll see it has a new design and still shows the members that have the most Silver Bananas and Total Banana Points, but you'll see a new default ranking called Ratio.
This "Ratio" ranking takes any members that have collected over 300 silver bananas and orders them based on the best Silver Banana / Total Vote ratio (using an adjusted ratio based on Bayesian stats). In other words, these are the members that have consistently just added pure helpful content and value in the most respectful way.
Other New Block Designs
The right column blocks are also getting a new facelift (Events, Jobs, Polls, Resources) to also make them easier to read. This is not done (should be in a few weeks)...
New Primary Menu - Resources & Templates
We have added a new primary menu option called "Resources" to try and unearth the most helpful posts and WSO resources to our members and visitors. We're particularly excited about the new template section which has Excel models, and Powerpoint files and we are investing and building this out over the coming months (oh, and all free to registered members :-)
Eventually want actual deal doc templates, lots of different models, etc so if you have any files that you'd like to add to the template resource page to help the community, please email me at [email protected]. If it's high quality, we're even happy to pay for it to make it free for the community (we can also scrub it to make sure that it's not identifiable).
This new menu still needs a lot of cleaning and will be getting its own redesign to make it easier to navigate and read, but likely ~2-3 weeks away from going live as well.
Job Board and Career Announcements Coming Soon
We have some interesting stuff in the works for our job board that I think all of you will love. We may be another month away from the announcement, but I'm very excited!
