Sessions - Getting kicked out of WSO?
Hey guys, we just noticed a setting that has been kicking our authenticated users out every 2 weeks? Has this been happening to you or do you stay logged in somehow?
Thanks,
Patrick

While I haven't been keeping track, I definitely have to log back in on occasion - two weeks seems about right.
This has happened to me recently, but it doesn't really bother me. Since you're running Drupal 7.x, note that occasionally when you run update.php (e.g. when you up core) you're clearing both your cache & sessions table, meaning everyone will be logged out. You could preserve the data and repopulate the table, but it would be a colossal waste of time. If you're concerned about the size of your database, consider wiping dblog and watchdog instead.
Not happening to me, sir.
I've noticed this happening both on mobile and my computer. I don't know if it is exactly two weeks, but it does happen occasionally.
Also, this has happened several times in the past: 1. I will click on a link and will notice that I'm logged out. 2. After logging back in, when I navigate back to that original post, I will be logged out again but only on that page.
Sounds like a cache issue. Try Ctrl+Shift+R when you revisit the original post and it still looks like you're logged out. If that doesn't work, might be one of the server's cache layers.
Yes it happens but I don't know about every 2 weeks. I hadn't gone on WSO for a while because I got busy doing other things and I had no problem just hitting my bookmark after a couple of months but then randomly I'll be asked to login again, and it's been happening for a long time. It seems random and not even device dependent. I never thought it was a problem and just thought it was a pw thing.
Might be every two weeks for me actually, but can't be entirely sure.
Yes I had the same issue. Login on one page doesn't log me in on the other page (even after refreshing)
Yeah now that you mention it, I have noticed I need to sign back in on Monday's, but thinking about it it is not every week, 2 weeks probably sounds about right.
Thanks, can you let me know if it keeps happening to you?
Will do! I login from home and work, so will let you know across locations.
Looks like I had to relogin today, haven't been on at home since early last week, but feel like I haven't had to sign back in for a few weeks when I have logged in at home!
I stay logged in fine. Having issues quoting people at times though. Also, sometimes giving bananas works but throwing shit doesn't. Neither happen every time either.
happens on my mobile but not on my desktop. FYI: I use safari on mobile, chrome on desktop.
It's happening to me across PC (chrome), mac and iPhone (safari)
I've been getting kicked out too. Not terribly active with posting and all, but is cumbersome to have to log in to read all the comments in a post. Two weeks sounds about right
thanks guys - much appreciated. Believe it or not, after some investigation and looking at past #s, I'm about 95% sure this was having a dramatic (negative) impact on user participation ...just based on what has happening before and after some changes to sessions settings several YEARS ago.
I'll try not to jump off a bridge. The good news is this should stop happening as frequently. SMH
Also, WallStreetOasis.com - not that I'm complaining - but lately every time I get a banana from someone I also immediately get the +5 bananas message which is supposed to come every 25 banana points, no?
yes, i think this is a bug :-) jgsantos
Driving the value of bananas into the dirt, man. INTO THE DIRT.
Update: if you logged in / created a new user earlier than yesterday, you will likely still get kicked out in 2 weeks...we are working on it...
Happens frequently on mobile and occasionally on PC. In fact, it just happened now on my PC.
thanks...if you logged in today, it shouldnt happen again. Can you let me know if it happens on mobile or PC again? thanks
update: if you are active on WSO at all, your session cookies will keep getting updated, so that you shouldnt randomly be logged out. This may still happen from time to time if we have to reboot the server, etc., but it should be much less frequent for everyone.
Thanks
WallStreetOasis.com - is there a limit on how much shit a person can throw even if they have the credits? Been a lot of shitposts lately and I can't effectively punish them.
