Advice for aspiring biz dev at MM?
Long story but I’m very interested in pursuing biz dev at a podshop. I’ve never worked in finance but have solid knowledge of this world / the risk model, and I’ve exhausted all the big platforms. Anyone have any advice for me on what to do / where to go from here? Would greatly appreciate it 🙏🏽
Interesting career choice. All the BDs I’m interacted with during my interviews are prior IPs but i think a lot of platform have intern/grad program for BD aswell.
All BD people were previously in L/S. Pretty sweet gig so no shortage of ex-IPs to hire
This is absolutely untrue. Ton of people coming from the sellside. Have a look at linkedin BD profiles for the big MMs.
Don’t know much about it but definitely intrigued if it’s a “sweet gig”. I imagine it’s mostly sourcing and talking with candidates combined with figuring out internal preferences and openings. What else does the job entail? Also, I’m guess WLB is pretty solid but what’s comp?
There’s a BBG article recently that senior BD comp can be in the LSD-MSD range, so might be doing better than your average sub PM!
