Is there a requirement to pass any of the FINRA exams (e.g. series 7 or 63) before you can be a PM at an MM? My coworker wants to jump from an analyst to statarb pm position and he's asking me to join him as analyst but I don't know if he passed any exams so I'm just doing my homework. Thanks for any help

I thought those exams are for broker-dealer (sell side) and buy side doesn't care about them?
Not needed for any buy side position If I'm not mistaken. I know my PM doesn't have them.
