The hardest interview I've ever had was with Ellington--those guys are no joke at all. Very solid quant HF, though they maintain a low profile and I don't know any details of their operation.

From talking with people in structured products space at other top firms, these guys are the best in their field. CIO is old school bond guy who is pretty well known.
Don't know much about the group, but I remember reading that a bunch of groups Paulson pitched to join in on his housing short dismissed him because they were thinking "if this is going to work, why isn't the smartest mortgage guy Vranos doing it?" Seems like he's a highly respected guru in the field
