Best Jobs If I Love Public Markets and Want to Maximize Pay?

Going to be starting college at a semi/low target in the Northeast this fall. I’ve always loved public markets—placed well in a bunch of competitions in high school and managed a portion of my school’s endowment. From what I can tell, going straight to a HF out of UG is pretty much a stretch, and the main realistic path seems to be ER out of UG and then trying to exit to the buyside. Just wondering if anyone has nuance to add on these paths or if there are other routes/roles I’m overlooking.
