Carreer expectations

Hi. I’m currently working at IB in a Canadian bank (RBC, Scotia, TD) and just graduated from an ivy. Role is in nyc and end goal is to work at a L/S hf. Don’t really know what to do next to get there - If doing PE first actually helps. I think the most prudent path would be going to a hf directly and start creating a record for myself. Given that I’m in a sort of non target bank would it be better to lateral to a bigger bank? Recruit for PE? Or directly find a hf? (Maybe a startup)… would love any insight/tips
