Channel Checks

How do you guys go about building relationships in industry for channel checks? Is this common to do to get differentiated insight or just something people say they do? I’ve always felt weird about doing this as it always feels a little grey ethically (or maybe I’m a wimp)

Maybe I’m overthinking this but I’ve been reconsidering my “conviction” in some ideas and was thinking about this as an angle

Fair point - surprising amount of useless "experts" out there. My best luck has been with former C-level (even if few years out of seat) or with distributors who can tip me off on how one company is massively outselling another, sales issues in particular regions, etc.

I haven't had any luck developing organic leads but I guess a good way to go about this would be to find industry conferences to visit. Sometimes banks even lead tours of select buyside firms to meet with top channel check experts.
