Cold Emailing Investment Pitches to PM’s

Hi everyone, am aware that this sounds like a long shot, but am looking for a bit of advice on how to go about cold-emailing an investment pitch to PM’s with hopes of converting that initial contact into a role at their fund.

My Story:

Interned at an EB last summer across Rx/M&A and got solid deal experience particularly on the Rx side. Ended up without a return and have been interviewing ever since (across banks, PE, HF, etc.) My ultimate goal, since beginning my internship, was always to eventually end up at a distressed/event driven HF. Of course given the lack of opportunities in that realm for undergrads, have focused on the usual out of UG entry positions (like banking, credit research) unfortunately, with no luck.

That said, have come across several buy side opps.—Just struck out in the last round of a process with a mid-size distressed HF and in their process have continued to research distressed investment fundamentals and develop plays at as deep a level as I can on my own. Since those interviews have ended, I have considered the option of sending my resume along with a solid investment pitch to PM’s of recently launched/potentially understaffed or even established mid-size funds in hopes of one biting and taking a chance on having a look at me for an analyst, “assistant analyst/associate”, or even intern (with potential for FT promotion) type role.

My questions are:

-Is this advisable as a legitimate strategy for landing a role out of UG at a HF/is it likely to actually yield anything?

-How should I approach writing the email to make it clear, without being obnoxious, that my intention is a shot at joining the fund in a junior position? (Should I email PM’s or analysts, Should I even bother sending pitch/resume in first email or only ask for a typical phone/coffee chat then follow up?)

-Am fleshing out a few solid distressed debt/cap structure arbitrage pitches and have followed along with guides/resources online on how to structure pitch—any advice on how to best write a solid/convincing write up (in terms of length, structure, presentation of returns etc.) given the circumstances of it being in a cold email and acting as a tool in gaining a job would be helpful.

Thank you.
