Curious on HF Internship for Sophomore Summer

Hey all - currently a rising sophomore at a semi-target state school with a double major in Finance + Accounting. Long term, I would love to own my hedge fund someday; however, that its a problem to deal with years from now. Interested in pursuing a sophomore summer internship at a smaller HF, want to gain as much experience as possible, and plan to have an internship every single summer. I plan to recruit for IB for an internship in my junior year, but have read that pursuing a HF internship is a pretty big ding. Is this the case? I am planning to recruit for BB and a couple EBs, I don't see the harm in learning, but I understand this is a pretty volatile industry - thoughts?
