People will have different views on this, but I personally do not like when people reach out to me over my work email. I did not give you my email address. Additionally (again this is just me) if you email me it gets lumped in with my work, and the importance of that email is low, so I probably will ignore it as I’m working and then forget about it.

I prefer people who reach out over LinkedIn (as that is part of why I have it). That is then separate from my work, it has a different time allocation, and I’ll most likely get to it over the weekend when I browse that stuff.

I had the exact opposite experience. My response rate through LinkedIn was exponentially lower than through email. I asked a few people about this while networking, and everyone said they preferred through their email. In my first three years of college I reached out to around 100 people through LinkedIn and over 400 through email. Virtually no one responded through LinkedIn.

Yeah the flip side is many people don’t use LinkedIn (or have it and never check it) so I could see how that works. For me, I will lose track of the email if sent to my work, and as I said, it can be a bit annoying to get pinged at work when I’m working through a bunch of stuff (especially if you do it late night - DON’T do this).
