DE Shaw Activist

Anyone have info on this group? Comp, hours, culture, investments, track record, etc.? Have a first round coming up with them, and can't find much other than they were involved in lowes & adp alongside ackman. ~4 years of experience in asset management, so this would be for an "associate" level role. Any help would be appreciated!

Group run by Quentin Koffey who is really well regarded. Was a PM at Elliott for a number of years working on mostly Energy / Industrials stuff but it looks like he's branched out a bit since opening this practice at DE Shaw. Prior to Quentin joining the team, DE Shaw did run a few campaigns (long ago, early 2000s), but they haven't had much of a presence since then. The team was basically just Quentin and one analyst one year ago so they've definitely done well and expanded. No idea on comp or hours - comp is likely to be great while there's also probably a tradeoff on the hours as it's a new team and there's probably an entrepreneurial bent to it.

Last I heard of them I think they were involved with Emerson Electric or some company like that. Not sure if that was still while the prior strategy head was there

Doesn't that pretty much describe most activists?

Not remotely close. When you’ve run 50 proxy contests, replaced boards, forced deals, etc., you have process skills. Not just sending letters.

Coffey had a few disasterous ideas in his first  year and Shaw wasn’t the right place either. Win/win that he left for Senator ( was also a mess) and now his own thing.

Run by Michael O’Mary and Edwin Jager. They do ‘real’ activism unlike what others are saying on this thread (even since Koffey’s departure). Have been public at FedEx and Verisk in the past year, suggest looking into those situations.
