drop CV at some HF?
Hi all,
I finished my second year of my maths degree in a very well known UK university.
I already accepted an offer from a top 3 american bank for SA 2014.
I was thinking of dropping my CV at some HF or quantitative prop firms, to do something during the wintern (like Jane Street's winternship)
I got the highest mark of the year in my maths exams (200 people course) and I am currently doing research, I think I have a generally strong CV, do you think it is worth trying or I shouldn't bother?
Also what HF/prop shops would you reccomend?
I was thinking AQR, Jane Street, Marshall Wace...

US or UK based?
I don't think there would be much point applying to US based ones, I am an EU citizen and this would only be a short time thing (still have 2 year of uni left)...
How do you have 2 years of uni left if you're doing maths at a UK uni?
it is a 4 year "undergraduate master" programme (MMath).
Can't comment specifically on any quant/prop shops, but why wouldn't you drop your resume? Just do it. What's the worst that can happen? The worst scenario is that they like your CV, interview you, realize you're an idiot and blacklist you. So long as you're not an idiot and willing to prepare for a potential interview, drop that CV.

yeah I guess you're right. Should I mention the fact I'm in a BB for next summer? (I already have a little BB work experience on my CV)
Definitely. Finance firms, especially IB, are like girls: they like the candidates others like. Once you get an offer, go shop that around and you'll get a lot of looks/interviews. They want what everyone else wants.
