EM Strucuturing/Trading (rates/credit) v.s. European Macro Credit Strategy

Hi

I have some inquiries regarding the long-term career development. I hope you could kindly give me some advices. Thank you very much!

I have two options: EM Strucuturing/Trading (rates/credit) v.s. European Macro Credit Strategy (Macro strategy reports with trading strategies to client).

As a postgraduate student having strong maths background, I slightly prefer the structuring/trading desk at the beginning. However, it is a big group and if the bank will shrink the business, very likely half of the team will be let go. Also some pple on that desk seemed very "cold" during the interview. It seemed they were working individually on their own and rarely talk to each other. I am finally offered a job there but not sure will that be a tough environment for me at the 1st year. However I wanna know

1) As a Structurer/trader, what is the typical career path?

2) Exit opportunities for Rates/Credit (Exotic) structuring/trader? Will that still be a institutional exit, please?

3) What is a typical salary frame and job securities. (I mean pay the job security relative to other roles like research, sales) ?

On the opposite, the Macro Credit strategy team is small, one desk Head (which i heard other guys say he is famous) and one senior, then they are looking for an apprentice. I heard it is more statistical/economic/political driven rather than those stochastic processes and black-scholes formulas. And they are publishing reports about CDS, HY ideas on a Macro base rather than specific company to clients. I think it might also be a good start. However, i have no deep understanding in this area and please may I ask

1) I guess once i get into this area and if I wanna do structuring again, that will be more difficult, right?

2) Long-term career paths? Exit opportunity, i mean after 5-7 yrs or if suddenly get fired?

3) What is a typical salary frame and job securities. (I mean the pay and job security relative to other roles like Credit research sectors, sales, HY traders) ?

4) And oftern how is the macro research desk associated to sales/trading and PnL, pls?

It is a long inquiry. Thanks!
