Facetime?

At my firm facetime matters, to a certain degree but I can't ask anyone about it because they refuse to acknowledge it matters. Therefore, I'm asking others at HFs, and others on WSO.

I typically work 6-6:30 and other associates work 8-7. Therefore, I'm working slightly more hours Mon-Fri, but do people notice facetime in the morning, or does it only count if you stay late?

I think it's same like rest of the industry. At my hedge fund, I had a trader assistant who was working European hours from 2:30am to noon. Sometimes the boss made him stay from 2:30am to 6pm as the boss didn't like him leaving early (even though, it's not early for him)and rest of the colleagues bad mouthed him how inconsiderate he was being. At the end, if your extra hour is helping you in your performance / making a good impact on the team then people will notice but if you come in early so you can leave early to accommodate your schedule, it won't look good.

And what I mean by coming in early is... so we start trading U.S. hours @ 8am... The senior trader comes in at 7:30ish to make sure his positions are correct and how his positions are doing before market opens.

I came in early... 6am. well... I was told to, to make print outs of how the fly was doing, looking for strategy, looking at levels we can play, making sure positions we ended with matches the clearing firm's reconciliation. Starting the computer, talking to brokers over mics over some stupid shit and making jokes... pretty much i make sure the senior trader didn't have to worry about anything
