Follow up with HH vs HF HR?

Hey everyone,

I had an HR interview with a HF two weeks ago before the holiday week am waiting to hear back. I got the opp through a HH and they are generally useless (only get in touch when they specifically need to schedule something). Obviously this means that they haven't explicitly given me the go-ahead yet. I followed up with the HH but expect no response.

Is it acceptable of me to follow up with HR directly? They said they would get back 'early next week' which would've been last week, but I assume people were busy/out with the 4th. Appreciate the help!
