From analyst to Fund Manager

Generalist global equity analyst at a value fund which buys puts for hedging.

Our process is quant screen>idea generation> research> buy/sell decision. We have no formal system where analyst idea generation is quantified , so to show good performance is the best way to impress and earn a deputy PM slot in the future running a paper portfolio / keeping a spreadsheet monitoring ideas?

Don't want to anatagonise boss by "subtly" reminding him that stock I recommended is up 40%.
