Garden Leave

I'm thinking about quitting my job at one of the big four pod shops and taking some time off to reassess what I want to do long-term. My contract states that the firm can enforce up a few months of garden leave at their discretion. If I am not leaving to a competitor (moreso re-evaluating whether to stay in finance or move to industry) will they still enforce garden leave? Don't exactly need the money but would prefer to still get paid for the time off if I can swing it.

Bad take. If this is fundamental equities, "competitive intelligence" is BS, there is none. Garden leaves are mostly meant to deter poaching by competitors.

Have seen many cases of waving the noncompete if you commit in writing not to return to the industry/join a competitor. If you want to get paid, you should do the reverse- play coy and make them believe you are joining a competitor.
