Going Beyond Number Crunching

Very traditional background and at a fast money shop, 10+ YOE, of which ~5+ YOE at a HF and consistently working under the same PM for the past 3 years. Previously, the division of labor was very clear - PM comes up with idea generation / thesis, and I run down the numbers / model. Starting to question what’s next, and how I will progress to a more decision-making / judgement-call role. Do not want to be a life-long number cruncher, and evolve to the next step. Modeling, hours, and comp not an issue. More for personal development + what happens if someone is “stuck” at my role? If I were to leave…what’s next / available?
