Hedge Fund Resume for PE associate

Hi guys - I am a 2nd year PE associate recruiting for public equities. I have 2 years prior experience in banking. What do you think is the best way to set up my resume?

i.e., Should I still show banking experience detail or just the transactions I worked on?

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's how you should set up your resume:

  1. Professional Experience:

    • Private Equity Associate:
      • Detail your role and responsibilities.
      • Highlight any significant transactions or deals you worked on.
    • Investment Banking Analyst:
      • Include a "transaction experience" section.
      • For each deal, provide:
      • A one-sentence description.
      • Your specific role.
      • Seller/buyer details if the deal is closed or announced.
      • Deal value if announced.
      • A brief description of the company (5 words or so).
      • Use placeholders like "Company A" or "Buyer A" if the transaction is pending or not announced.
  2. Formatting and Grammar:

    • Ensure your resume is free from formatting and grammatical errors.
    • Consistency in resume tense (past or present) is crucial.
  3. Keywords:

    • Use keywords that stand out to reviewers, such as:
      • Comparables analysis
      • Industry analysis/research
      • Due diligence
      • Modeling
      • DCF valuation
      • Leveraged buyout
      • Distressed debt
  4. Additional Tips:

    • Include relevant internship experience.
    • Omit high school details.
    • Volunteer work or involvement in other areas can be included but should not take up substantial space.

By following these guidelines, you can create a resume that effectively showcases your experience and skills, making you a strong candidate for public equities roles.
