Hedge fund trends

Hi all,

With hedge funds facing ever increasing competition and challenges, from having to cut management fees to attract investors, to facing increasing competition from quant funds. Does anyone within the industry have any insight on current trends and developments? Is there an increasing need for quant anaylsts?

What would you guys recommend current university students do to ride the wave of quant funds being more and more prominent? What kind of skills/coding language/software should I be familiar with?

Thanks in advance.
