Hedgefund Internships

Bit of background, I am a 3rd year student with macro trading internships at a bank and at one of the largest commodities shops. Looking to see where to go from here.

I would love to hear what opportunities are like for students at hedge funds. Which offer the best starting point, and recruit the most interns. Any insight would be appreciated, as well as specific firms currently recruiting.

Thanks!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it seems that many hedge funds do offer internships to undergrads. The best way to land a hedge fund interview is through networking. However, a large portion of the recruiting process is outsourced to headhunters, who primarily target bankers and research analysts in their searches.

The job responsibilities at a hedge fund are not exactly the same as those in banking or research, but the skill set and intelligence necessary to be a junior banker serve as a baseline for the kind of work that is expected of hedge fund personnel.

Hedge fund internship interviews aren’t incredibly technical. Besides some basic questions on the markets and investing, the interview will consist of behavioral and fit questions. So, come prepared with a few short stories you can adapt to answer some of the more typical behavioral questions.

If you are coming out of investment banking, you should be prepared to talk about the deals that you have listed on your resume.

Unfortunately, I don't have specific names of hedge funds that are currently recruiting. However, I would recommend checking out the WSO Company Database and the WSO Virtual Bootcamps for more resources and information.

Remember, the journey to a hedge fund starts with a single step, or in this case, a single application. So, don't be afraid to put yourself out there and start networking! Good luck!

I appreciate the advice and firm names! While the above is correct regarding my interest in macro hf, I am open to everything. Priority for me is to continue learning and to find an area with a high career ceiling.
