HELP ! Interview from non-traditional background

I just got a call from a headhunter I've been using saying a firm wants to meet me in their office but first wants to do a 30 minute phone screen. How should I prepare for the phone screen ? It could be as soon as late this afternoon. I come from non-traditional background (strategy consulting for non-MBB) and would kill for this job.

Any advice would help.

On a 30 min phone screen? I don't think so. They probably want to see how articulate you are to make sure it's worth their time to have you come in...

Well I've always had a tougher time on phone interviews than on in-person interviews myself but here is what has usually helped me:

-Make sure to catch the names of the people on the call. Would be awkward to be interviewed by the same person again in the office and not know you've spoken to them before.

-Try not to sound too nervous. I think it's better to speak slightly slower than usual when on the phone rather than having them not understand half of what you said. Also try to be precise and concise in your answers, you don't want to sound like you're rambling.

-Try to keep them interested in your actual experience. The more you speak about what you know, the less time they'll have to throw in one of those stupid "tell me about..." questions...

Best of luck :)
