If you have to ask that question, it's dying.
If the founder has enough capital in it, the fund will "survive" and can turn into a family office if he/she so chooses, but the economics is not going to be attractive to you as there will not be management fee / incentive fee.
I am actually curious how family office juniors get compensated.
If your fund's returns suck, it's probably dying.
qualifier: if your fund's returns suck and AUM below 1bn, dying. If sizable AUM, dumb LPs will keep money there b/c prestige.
