Can happen but you certainly aren't entitled to it. Depends on the circumstances. You are more likely to get it if they like you and you are doing a good job but just got phased out.
I've heard about this in situations where there's 2 co-founders and one of them, typically the CIO, wants the other one out in order to achieve 100% control.
But at the junior level, I would imagine it's very infrequent. Everyone knows the industry is volatile and most contracts are on an "at will" basis. Not sure how you'd justify paying out severance.
