Homework assignment from hedge fund

So I was interviewing with a l/s fund and I was given a homework assignment. The guy gave me 1 week to finish it, and I basically just put in ~10 hours that day and the next doing it and sent it in on Saturday (had gotten it Friday).

Is that in bad taste, to finish so quickly? My girlfriend thinks I shouldve waited until mid next week to send it over, and that it will show that I am over eager and that I shouldve spent more time working on it. I dont think its a real issue, and I think I did a good job on it. Thoughts?

If you're 110% sure it's 100% accurate, then I see no problem with sending it very early. If its not 100% accurate, then you my friend may pay the price. Good luck though.

How much time do they realistically expect you to spend? 10 hours is a lot already. I've never given out something that should take longer than 3 hours. The bottom line is that you should be able to manage your own life. If it worked better for your schedule to do it earlier in the week, that's great, but as long as it is in on time, when you sent it should have no impact on the evaluation of your work. Just my $0.02.

Further, I wasn't there obviously, but the one week deadline might be totally arbitrary. It could be that he wants to interview you in one week because that is convenient for him or because he assumes you will be working and may already have other commitments.

Thx for the comments guys.

Rav, it was actually just to write a research report on a company he had picked, and its corresponding stock. He didnt give much instruction, but rather just to write a report on the company. They had conveniently enough just put out an 8-k, so I was able to glean a lot from there. I suppose I couldve put together a really complex model to show where they may be going in the next five years, but my feeling was that he wanted more of an overview. This was also post interview 1, fwiw.
