How do pod shops audit/validate pods?

It just came to me that all pod shops, when they're hiring a PM or onboarding a pod of some sort, they must validate/audit the pods in the first place.

How does that work? What are things that are screened? Are they just interviewing the people and their backgrounds or are they running some sort of validation on their strategies?
