How long until you pitched first idea for the book?
As a new analyst to the industry/firm (MM), in a new sector, how long did it take before you pitched your first idea? I mean fulsome pitch, not just talking names and running thoughts around.

It's a thin line.. at most MMs the portfolio rotation is so high, there's not a lot of superlong write-ups and formal presentations.. also your universe is tightly defined, so it's not like you're going to pitch some arcane name the PM has never heard of.
2-3 months. Probably not the norm but I was sector specialist hired at a generalist fund and wanted the opportunity to pitch names as soon as possible. They gave me rope to run after my initial recommendations with their existing positions related to my sector generally panned out.
For better or worse, I have little fear of failure, so take that into consideration.
