How To Get Hedge Fund Summer Internships In Undergrad

For those who interned at hedge funds in undergrad, mainly summer after sophomore year, how did you go about finding opportunities/networking?

One I’m going to ran a formal process, submit a case study thing then a few rounds of interviews.

I landed a role at a fund one summer. Assuming you're not some Greenwich spawn, you'll be playing a numbers game of cold emailing as many funds as you can.Occasionally, someone will post a Bloomberg list of all of the registered funds in a geography. Start by trying to find those. If you can't, LinkedIn and combing through 13Fs / SEC text search by city keywords also work.

Shoot a three sentence email introducing yourself, describing your interest / how you found them, and asking if they'll bring someone onboard for the summer / season. Email the most senior person there since they'll likely be the one who makes the decision.

Finding these roles is hard but far from impossible. I've found that a small but significant amount of funds have had kids of big investors/friends come on board for the summer so they're used to taking people on.Best of luck, my friend. I'm certainly pulling for you.

Thanks, I really appreciate the info. I've compiled a long list of places to reach out to. I was wondering how you go about getting emails for most of these places? Most have one main email but how do you find emails for senior people working at these funds?

Just a lot of guessing and checking. There are some websites that allow you to test the email to make sure it's real before you send.
