I have a one week internship. Now what?

Hey all.

Undergrad student at an Ivy double majoring in finance and mathematics. I have achieved the cold emailing dream, and secured work experience for a notable hedge fund. However, this is only for one week. I asked if they could give me more and they said they could only offer that much to me.

I'm still happy I secured something, but still feeling kind of down it isn't for at least a month. This internship doesn't start until January (their earliest date available).

So what do I do now? I'm still cold emailing more firms, hoping to secure something on top of that, but so far no success. Let's suppose I am unable to find something, would a one week internship be enough to help me secure a grad role in finance (if not hedge fund, some sort of Asset Management firm would do in the meantime)?

This is a good start. People pad their resume all the time with "externships" that are a day long. Some are even a couple hours long. Use your one week to your advantage. Good luck.

Ahhh, I've had experience with these type of super bullshit internships. Pretty much bring him some documents to read, spread it out. Or you tell him to do industry research- like research the car industry... essentially do whatever you want or as much as you want. Or as CaliCarry81 stated tell him to make coffee or copies (but this intern may not be experienced at either of these functions and it may simply be easier for you to do the previous two suggestions) And then its over. Good luck!
