IB Analyst Interested in HFs - Where to Start?
I'm an IB analyst (FIG coverage) and I don't see myself in this job long term. I'm interested in learning more about hedge funds (I have no interest in PE, but not yet totally burned out on the "high finance" track), and have a few main questions for anyone who might have the answers:
-
What are some larger hedge funds with FIG coverage? I'm not married to FIG by any means, but figure this would be the easiest sell in an interview process. I'd like to target these groups for informational interviews to get a sense of whether or not I'd be any good at the job.
-
Is there a specific job title that corresponds to IB Analyst/Associate in the HF space? It has been more difficult to know who on LinkedIn is doing what compared to with IB roles.
-
Are there any funds that provide structured training for new recruits, or is it a "figure it out" sort of thing across the industry?
Bump
Not large persay, but check out Bishop Rock Capital. The head guy is a FIG guy by training.
Figure it out industry
also you could figure out most of these questions by googling and looking at older WSO threads
This analyst pops on every single HF thread like this to be a total douche lmao you're a loser dude.
Hardly, it’s just a shame to see people want to work in this industry, and yet require basic information to be spoonfed.
You guys will not make it, and this forum is getting worse for the rest of us; I’m not asking much - just ask questions that show you atleast tried to do some research
1. Any sector-divided eq l/s will have FIG coverage unless the CIO/PM just happens to not like FIG (which is possible). All of the pod shops will of course have financials pods
2. No, on buyside you're pretty much either an analyst or a PM. Sometimes an associate depending on split up. But there is no titular difference between a 1YOE equity analyst and a 10YOE equity analyst. Some won't have linkedin. Some will just put "long/short fund" as their title. HF guys don't tend to be very good at using LI.
3. The big 3 pod shops do to an extent, with the most (in)famous being P72 academy. Apart from that, it's "figure it out"/apprenticeship.
Why infamous?
It is known to be very tough. There's a recent thread on it.
