If you want to exit to HF for FT, group won’t really matter and same applies to after 2yrs of banking. 

Obviously, being on a sector team will give you a tiny leg up if you are to cover the same sector at HF, but you will have to learn what you learned in IB for 2yrs within a month. So wouldn’t really matter unless you do something very niche like infra, real estate, etc

 

i have some interest in consumer and retail but many say to go for m&a since quality of work is higher - is it better to do one or the other?
