In my country there's a subject in university called "mathematical engineering" is it apropriate for working in hedge funds?

I don't know if I should study pure mathematics or "mathematical engineering", which is a degree that doesn't exist in USA. So do you think it is worth it for a future career in the hedge fund industry or it would be better pure math? Thank you!
