I'd say read up on some high profile ones today and form an opinion on the strategies. Everyone (even some growth equity guys) in the space is vaguely aware of the campaigns this year so it would be good to demonstrate how keen you are by doing that.

There's literally hundreds of Google hits on Dan Loeb, including an email thread with a candidate where he roasts the candidate. You say you want to be a research analyst and you haven't figured out Google?
Maybe this person wants the title and pay and then outsources the actual research work to WSO monkeys.
