Interviewed by a racist at balyasny

I was interviewed by a racist.  He had a big problem with me breaking into his team (I’m a Hindu) and he was visibly angry at the “welcome to the team meeting” whereby he started interrogating how I got a visa in USA.  My offer was revoked when I tried to explain to him that this wasn’t an interview and how is this related to the job at hand?

I was very confused as 3 days prior to the welcome, a team member from credit technology called me and convinced me to join his team via LinkedIn.  I quit my job and rejected two other offers.  In the meeting he was extremely aggressive against me and I didn’t like his vibe one bit.  I answered all his easy technical questions and the offer was revoked.  A month later I noticed that another Muslim guy got the same job for the role that was supposed to be mine.  Beware at how racist the interview process is.  I’ve never been subjected to such a hateful interview.  I got a new job now, but for 3months this left me in a very very bad spot.

Look, I understand why feel this way. We have all been in a position where life didn't seem fair. Fact is, life is never 100% fair. Be happy you found something new and learn a lesson from this scenario. An interview is a two-way street, you also have to do your due diligence on the company. If there is a certain religion, race, gender or (..) that has a problem with you during the interview stages - then just take the hint and don't work there.

In the long run these kind of people will not get away with it. Also, if you feel you were treated unfairly, go the official way and file a complaint against them.

Thanks but I was just kind of shocked this happened to me.  I’ve been interviewed by many religions in the past, Muslims, Christians, Hindus and didn’t get the job.  But I never once felt it was racist.  There was just something very wrong with the way he was speaking down to me.  I felt I had to share this because it was wrong on so many levels.  After getting revoked, the team member called me saying that guy scolded the HR for allowing my resume to pass through.  I was like wtf?  I passed 3 rounds of leetcode.  What more can I do?  It makes no sense why a google head would go out of his way and complain to HR when I have done nothing wrong.  The head of business development communicated to my recruiter that he could have pushed my resume as 3 other members really liked me.  But he chose not to because it seemed that guy had a target on my back and he wanted to ensure he set me up for success rather than failure.

Do you think sending that guy a f'u message on LinkedIn is fine? Or should I take the high road and move on ?

you should move on with your life. same situation as getting rejected on dating apps or in other interviews or anything like it.

Just move on. If you feel like the interview was unfair, then file a complaint against the company, specifically quoting the scenario and the person responsible. also file a complaint with their HR team. You won't get the job this way, but if enough people complain about this person it might get somewhere in the long run.

Please don’t do that. Act like a professional and not a child. May I ask ; What will this accomplish?

People always remember the people that acted with class (this needs to be you), and the people that do not (the sector head). Be civil, thank the BD team, and ask if it’s ok to keep in touch maybe it can lead to something down the road. End.
