IR at a Hedge Fund?

Recently got reached out to about an IR position at a hedge fund. For some background I’d be coming from PWM/WM. Would be interested to hear peoples opinion on this? It is a very good/well known HF. I assume IR is more of a career than just a stepping point correct? If anyone has done something similar or could shed some light on what I might be doing that would be great. The description was quite vague. Thanks in advance.

Do not do this expecting to break into investing positions at said hedge fund. This is extremely difficult, far moreso than trying something like Operations -> S&T at a BB

With that being said, people in IR can make between $150-$450 at the senior levels (i'm sure it gets higher for division head roles). Which is nothing to scoff at. Definitely more of a career than stepping stone
