IR at a Hedge Fund?
Recently got reached out to about an IR position at a hedge fund. For some background I’d be coming from PWM/WM. Would be interested to hear peoples opinion on this? It is a very good/well known HF. I assume IR is more of a career than just a stepping point correct? If anyone has done something similar or could shed some light on what I might be doing that would be great. The description was quite vague. Thanks in advance.
Sounds fun. Good luck
I guess it could be a good starting position to build a career.
Do not do this expecting to break into investing positions at said hedge fund. This is extremely difficult, far moreso than trying something like Operations -> S&T at a BB.
With that being said, people in IR can make between $150-$450 at the senior levels (i'm sure it gets higher for division head roles). Which is nothing to scoff at. Definitely more of a career than stepping stone
IR at a HF is typically marketing, sales support, and fundraising. If its early in your career it's possible to pivot to front office if you're skilled, much tougher if you're 30+. That being said IR comp at a decent fund is quite high.
What is comp like?
