Is there any top Hedge Fund manager that had an IB/PE background?
My friend made a good point that all the top hedge fund managers / legendary HF investors don't have IB or PE experience. Either they started their fund straight out of college, or did other stuff before that. Is there any top Hedge Fund manager that had an IB/PE background? If not, why do you think this is the case?
The legends began their career when there were 10 hedge funds in total. Today there are 10,000+.

There are at few $10bn+ citadel cub founders that worked at BB’s in the late 90s-early 00’s. There are even tiger cub founders that are 1bn+ that worked at MFPE/IB.

ah true. litowitz worked in IBD. alyeska founder worked at DB but was in S&T i think.
my additions: jeff smith (socgen IB), canyon founders and a bunch of others (drexel IB), larry robbins (gleacher IB), scott shleifer (bx pe), ning jin (bx pe), jesse cohn (ms IB), john paulson (bear IB), senator founders, sundheim (bear PE). and that's just off the top - many, many more out there
Dan loeb I think worked in PE for Warburg pincus among other IB-related roles
