Is this a useless question to ask to my future boss?
Hi all. Recently accepted a lateral offer for an Associate position in a liquid credit platform (mix of strategies). The team is divided in sectors, and I would have a strong preference to keep one of the two sectors that I am currently covering (and I think I can add a ton of value, too). I won't be starting for ~2.5 months. Is it a stupid question to ask what the plan is in respect to my sector coverage? is it a question best asked closer to the start date?
I'm old fashioned but I would do this over the phone. Make up a different but similar question to start the conversation then ask a series of targeted questions to back your manager into telling you the answer you need to know without ever having to ask the question out right.
I’d like to reiterate the aforementioned comment
OP here.
Makes sense. Some good angles to approach this too: "excited to start and is there any sector reading I should be doing etc". Thanks.
Follow up, is there a reason why asking outright is not the way to go in your opinion?
