LO to SM HF possible?
Former 2+2+2 with top IB/PE/HSW MBA made the pivot to LO after b school, but environment is too sleepy and want to give SM a try. Do I have a shot or is that path closed to me?

Yes, intern in IB if you are smart enough to get your pedigree you should be smart enough to figure out the answer to this question…
Hey - how long have you been in the LO role? Also, what compelled you into going into a LO role after HSW vs. going straight into L/S or SM route? - This will be a question you'll need to answer when you start engaging with HFs.
I wouldn't say its impossible, but it definitely gets harder the longer you are in the LO role. The thinking process for investments and portfolio balance is different (for most anyways) among SM strategies and LO.
I've seen it done a couple times but you'll definitely need to leverage your MBA network to get looks. The fancy SM funds aren't actively looking at LO guys to give shots to, and lot of the larger SM types don't like looking at pod MM guys either. If you did your stint at a MF PE you have a fair shot at leveraging that into some looks at decent SM funds.
Went from a LO to a fancy SM after 2 years. You def get looks if you have an Ivy background, I think people on this forum sometimes overestimate how hard it is to switch setups. It’s really all about crushing the fit/case study portion no matter your background.
