London industrials IB to HF - how to prepare
Currently an investment banking analyst in BB in industrials team, talked to HH recently and plan to transit to hedge funds in London in next year with processes starting in September 2027
Wondering are there any skills I should develop during my daily job? Any specific tasks that are more valued than others? (eg., public takeover, corporate broking, modeling, regression, etc.)
Also interested in process and career path:
1. The gatekeeper of MMs are BDs, will they send my CVs to industrials PMs only, or will send to all PMs where there is a spot?
2. If interviewing with industrial PMs, any names in London that are particularly good / to avoid?
3. Any difference (advantage / disadvantage) between transiting from IB directly to HF and doing IB + PE then transiting to HF in London? Will IB + PE route open doors on some SM HFs / Tiger clubs (maybe also Citadel strategic equity team?) while IB to HF only to fundamental L/S in MM HFs and certain SMs?
4. Personally would prefer being in a team with holding period longer than quarter trading. Any chance to find in MM HFs?
Thanks!
