L/S Analyst a pitch examples

Hi, first of all, apologies if this has already been addressed in previous posts. After a good amount of networking, I have gotten a couple of interviews for L/S Funds and I am currently trying to prepare a strong L/S pitch for them. I see a lot of examples online of pitches for activist campaigns, but am yet to find one for an L/S pitch. If anyone knows any sources that could be useful, I would greatly appreciate it if they guided me towards them.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and resources to help you craft a strong L/S (Long/Short) pitch for your interviews:

  1. Key Elements of a Strong L/S Pitch:

    • Introduction: Start with a brief explanation of the business, its competitors, and major industry metrics.
    • General Recommendation: Clearly state whether it’s a long or short position and define the time frame (e.g., short-term or long-term).
    • Why Now: Highlight what makes the stock attractive at this moment. Is there a specific market sentiment or event driving the opportunity?
    • Catalysts: Identify potential events or factors that could drive the stock price up or down. Discuss whether the market’s current sentiment is justified and what could change it.
    • Metrics and Scenarios: Provide a clear analysis of what the financial metrics would look like under different scenarios (e.g., if the catalyst materializes or not).
    • Conclusion: Summarize why the catalyst is most likely to favor your recommendation.
  2. Resources for Examples:

    • The WSO Hedge Fund Interview Prep Course offers 20+ sample pitches with actual templates. This course is highly recommended for aspiring hedge fund professionals and includes over 814 questions across 165 hedge funds.
    • A free hedge fund pitch template is available on WSO, which provides a concise and utilitarian approach to crafting pitches. This is particularly useful for keeping your pitch focused and impactful.
  3. Tips for Short-Term L/S Pitches:

    • Focus on quarterly (3-9 months) ideas, as these are less common but highly valued.
    • Research patterns and trends in short-term market movements to improve your pitch’s relevance.
    • Avoid overly simplistic pitches; instead, aim for a balance between depth and brevity.
  4. Additional Advice:

    • Practice your pitch with peers or mentors to refine your delivery and receive feedback.
    • Ensure your pitch is concise, as hedge funds typically prefer a focused analysis rather than a lengthy report.

For more detailed examples and templates, you can explore the WSO forums and resources like the Stock Pitch Sample Template or the HF Analyst Pitch Examples. These provide proven frameworks and insights to help you ace your interview.
