Given how the previous generation hedge fund founders are mostly traders (obviously there are exceptions) even though they're mostly L/S now, is L/S stock picking the best skill set to be going into if you're young if you'd like to have a highly sought after skill set down the road that people would seed funds into, etc. vs. a macro fund / trading skill set that's more unique?

this question makes no sense. I wouldn't worry about it, I don't think you'll be in a position where you have to think about being seeded anytime soon.
The most sought after skill set is the ability to make money. If you can do this consistently, you will have no problem raising capital.
