L/S Equity vs Credit HF vs Opportunistic Private Credit
I am very fortunate to be in the situation where I am able to consider all three paths post banking. I really don’t know what I want to do and am thinking about career longevity, WLB, compensation, and my general interests in each field. All 3 options are at well known institutions. Just looking for some wisdom on here - what perspectives might I be missing and how else would people here approach thinking about what path to go down?
In a similar position, interested in your thoughts as well. Guess you are in rx too?
I am leaning credit HF b/c I truly finds it more interesting than the other two. I think you can move relatively easily from credit HF (distressed) to L/S Equity than the other way around (correct me if im wrong). Also a CIO at a large distressed HF told me that the skillsets and types of investing between opportunistic credit and credit HF is merging - i think its much easier for a HF to have a draw down vehicle than for an special sits fund to trade in the markets. Ultimately i think you just need to think about what type of work interests you the most. No wrong choices here.
Makes sense. The distressed world tends to attract some sharp elbowed people and that is somewhat turning me away given the people that I have met. Also thinking about how we are young right now, and whether the riskier nature of L/S equity makes more sense at this point in our career rather than later when we may be more risk averse
