Anyone know of any reputable / institutional L/S or long-only funds (equity) that are open to recruiting MBAs without front office finance experience? For example, I see a high number of BB IB MBA associates whose pre-MBA work exp is in something completely unrelated to the job. However, it seems like every single Fidelity / T Rowe / HF recruit out of MBA did either IB / PE / consulting prior, all of which are related to company analysis. If I don't have a traditional background, is it possible to recruit for one of those roles out of an M7? Thanks.

It's possible. If you go to the finance-y M7, you should get a look if you check all the boxes during first year - investment club, pitch competition, analyst / PM of student fund, etc. The rest is all about whether you know what you are talking about. You have to make up for lack of experience by self-teaching how to think about investing, analyzing businesses, valuing businesses and pitching stocks. You cannot rely on learning these in the classroom because 1. classroom is all theory and shallow (unless taught by real hedge fund managers) 2.
