Merger/Takeover Research Project Help!

Hi all, Unfortunately due to the exceptional circumstances created by the pandemic my summer internship at an event driven hedge fund has been put on hold until normality returns and normal working practices are resumed. In order to make the most of this "down time" I would like to start my own research project on a particular deal that is currently in the discussion phase. I would like to do a thesis on the target company and apply valuation methods on it (DCF, Multiples ect), making a case as to why I think the deal would go through. It would be the first time I will have created a report on a merger or takeover (I still need to find one) but I would appreciate any advice on how you would go about creating such a report. Simple step by step points ect would be very helpful. I am aware of a very good post on here going into great detail about research processes but I would like to know if you have any suggestions on a process specific to mergers/takeovers. I do not intend to present my report to said fund until I have ran through it with someone else in the likely event that I may mess something up and make myself look incompetent. I welcome your thoughts. Thank you in advance!
