Moving from Private Credit to Hedge Funds

Hi all,

I’m currently working in private credit / direct lending (large/mid-market focus, senior/unitranche, strong modeling and credit underwriting exposure).

I’m considering a transition to the hedge fund space and wanted to get perspectives on:

• Which hedge fund strategies are the most realistic transitions from private credit (e.g. credit HF, distressed, event-driven, multi-strategy pods)?

• What skill gaps typically need to be addressed when coming from private credit?

• Whether the transition is easier via public credit / HY desks first, or can be done directly.

Would appreciate any insight from people who’ve made a similar move or have seen it done successfully.

Thanks in advance.
