NYC Career Path (Operations / TA)

Hi All,

I am looking for some help guidance on my current career path...

I have worked at a few different funds, my first two had a Credit focus , and now I am at a larger fund focused in equities that also does some Credit.

First shop was very small (under ~100mm), learned a ton there. Blew up during COVID.

I was doing all Ops, as well as some IR / Accounting and I did all of the funds repo trading (~$1bn RV book total size)

Second position was very siloed in Credit Operations, didn't do much for me but was a big name -  now I'm at a place where people have jumped to the FO many times by waiting it out in my current seat and getting cherry picked. The only thing is I'm going to be 29 years old this year and think I can be doing more, sooner...

I can pretty much do anything I put my mind to but can not for the life of me figure out where I should focus my efforts on.. or if I should look elsewhere to another company (whether it be hedge fund, tech, etc..) to get me out of the Operations world. I have a strong interest in Investor Relations / Business Development / Business Management as well as being a TA > Trader (hopefully) .. Any opinions/recs on what my experience aligns me for would be really helpful.. .am I doomed in HF Ops forever? I have experience in FI/Repo/Equity/Credit Ops. Can any of this be translated to another world in Finance, or within a Finance dept. at a Tech company?... Throwing ideas out there to stimulate conversation (hopefully).

I am pretty much running the team at my current spot and my work life balance is OK.. but living in NYC my TC is nowhere near increasing at a rate that is sustainable for my long term goals. TC for 2023 was just over 200k.

Thanks!
